SL Seed Certification

A Smart System for Seed Stock Licensing & Verification

Overview

SL Seed Certification is a government-fullstack project developed for the Government of Sierra Leone to streamline the licensing, tracking, and verification of seed stock for farmers and seed import businesses. I was tasked with designing and building this platform to improve transparency and efficiency in seed certification.

The Problem

Previously, seed farmers and businesses faced challenges in licensing their stock and keeping track of their certification status. Additionally, consumers had no reliable way to verify whether a seed stock was approved, expired, or uncertified, leading to potential agricultural losses.

The Solution

The platform provides:

  • A centralized system for seed farmers and importers to license and track their seed stock.
  • API integrations that allow external platforms to easily consume certification data for verification purposes.
  • A public verification tool that enables consumers to check the effectiveness and approval status of seed stock.
  • A multi-user role system, where access and actions are determined by user roles.
  • NextAuth authentication & middleware, allowing seamless role-based routing and security.

Technology Stack

  • Frontend: Next.js
  • Backend: Node.js & Express
  • Authentication: NextAuth
  • Database: PostgreSQL
  • API: RESTful APIs for external platform integration

Key Takeaways

This project not only enhances government efficiency in seed certification but also improves trust and accessibility for farmers and consumers. It showcases my ability to design scalable systems, implement role-based authentication, and integrate APIs for seamless data access.
